Aney & Terrance

Text: L Morgenson.

Aney Mei and Terrance Li's wedding was a love story that spanned more than twelve years. They met through mutual friends 15 years ago and spent years being friends—though they were often teased about their undeniable connection. Finally, they took a chance on love and twelve years later Aney found herself on a boat in Capri, floating next to the Blue Grotto as Terrance dropped onto one knee.

Since Italy was a special place to the couple, they originally set their date for June 15, 2020 in Florence. But like so many during the pandemic, the couple had to change their plans. As fate or luck would have it, Aney and Terrance found a slice of Italy in Lune 1860, a villa that encapsulated the European charm they envisioned.  The Italian-style country house bordering the Maitland River is just two and half hours from Toronto and was the perfect setting for their intimate nuptials attended by their bridal party, closest friends and immediate family.

“Words of advice is to stay true to you and focus on what is meaningful to you and your partner. The wedding day will be special no matter what —rain or shine!”

-Aney

Inspired by their European travels and the sense of the Italian Dolce Vita, their wedding was nothing short of magical. “[In Italy] we genuinely appreciated how people took the time to live their life so effortlessly. Everyone there just seemed light, happy, and stress-free,” says Aney. “Naturally, we wanted to bring this into our wedding and create a very similar atmosphere.” The couple embraced this mood and chose to celebrate outside in the Lune’s “wild and untamed” garden. “There’s a beautiful elegance in keeping everything simple and embracing things in its natural state,” explains Aney of their decor. The design was an ode to natural beauty with wooden elements such as the ceremony chairs, a raw-edged welcome sign and florals that sang of nature a neutral palette of white, cream, buttery yellow and muted green.

Aney and Terrance also embraced this simplicity with their outfits, Aney wore a simple sheath gown while Terrance sported a classic tux. With such a tight-knit guest list, the couple was able to cherish every moment.

As the sun fell and the day turned to dusk, the couple and their guests gathered around the garden fountain and shared stories of how Aney and Terrance met as well as loving speeches from the maid of honor and best man.
