Taylor-Hughes Photography.

A lovely couple to photograph a couple in love. What’s not to like? Taylor-Hughes Photography is a unique team given that the dynamic duo is a couple themselves. They have a knack for seamlessly integrating with the party to allow the celebration to be what it’s supposed to be rather than feel like a photoshoot. As Jack and Jade told us in our interview, the trick is to get acquainted early and to focus on the couple’s comfort throughout the day.

What is photography to you? Tell us how you both fell into wedding photography?

Photography is definitely our creative outlet, but we actually accidentally fell into wedding photography. Our best friends were getting married, and we volunteered to capture their day. Jack already loved taking and editing photographs, mainly of landscapes at this point, so we gave it a go. I really love people and events, so it was truly natural fit for us.

You are married and work together which is unique to the industry. Can you tell us about your process?

We met on the first day of university and have pretty much done everything together since that point. It’s not for everyone but getting to work with your other half is such a privilege and we are so lucky that it works for us. Although we are both photographers, we do have separate roles within our business and have learnt to stick to our strengths. Jack focuses on the art, chasing the light and experimenting with the camera and I remain focused on the people and the experience. We couldn’t do it without each other!

How do you work closely with your couples in such a short time to make them feel confident and comfortable? Do you have any advice for those who might be shy?

I really believe that it’s in the build-up. It is important to us to meet and talk with our couples right from the very start to make sure we’re a great fit. We work closely with our couples to create a timeline so that the day flows smoothly, and they can really just relax and enjoy it all. Some of the best advice we’ve had as photographers is to remember that a wedding day is not a photo shoot, and I think that works both ways. Genuine smiles over posing every time!

How do you capture each wedding so beautifully and make it unique to each couple?

Photography is a record and reflection of the location, interactions, and emotions, and every wedding day is also a reflection of the couple. It’s important that we get to know our couples so that we can tailor the experience for them. It also very important to us that our couples feel very well looked after!

What advice would you give couples looking for their perfect photographer?

Choosing your photographer is as much about the edit style and package as it is the team. Feeling comfortable is essential. Find a photographer that you love being around and you won’t notice the camera.

Tell us one of your favourite magical moments you have captured.

A highlight would have to be travelling via helicopter through the mountains to a hidden lake in New Zealand for a couple shoot. Standing in such a dramatic landscape capturing two beautiful people in love soaking in the view was absolutely incredible. We’ve really been privileged to enjoy so many breathtaking moments over the years.

What’s next for you in 2023 and beyond?

This year is about slowing down and refining our business. We learnt so much in 2022 personally, as a team, and in our business. We want to take the time to invest, explore, and educate ourselves in new ways. It really is a beautiful industry to be a part of!
