In the wake of Covid-19, the pandemic has forced us to not only rethink our day-to-day way of living, but also the fairytale weddings that we have once dreamed of. Once upon a time lavish and extravagant weddings have been pared back to be intimate and micro. Brides who have once dreamed of getting married in full-blown Cinderella ball gowns are now opting for non-traditional and refined pieces that are more suited for smaller weddings and venue settings.

Similarly, my fiancée and I had plans to get married last June in Florence, Italy. However, two months prior, we were left with no other choice but to cancel our celebrations and reconsider our options. We decided that we did not want to postpone any longer and proceed with planning a small, intimate wedding for this summer here in Canada with our bridal party and immediate family. I had two bridal dresses planned—one for the ceremony and one for the reception, but decided that I would be wearing just one, a simple and timeless gown.

While there will always be a love for beautiful, fill-the-room type of gowns, there is something so special about simple and understated silhouettes. Here are 10 fashion-forward, non-traditional dresses for the modern bride.
